I come from a country in which I had never heard of the idea of being gay. Growing up in Baghdad, Iraq, I had never even heard of such a thing. When we got here, to the U.S., I had to go through the phase of denial and being aggressive towards the idea of homosexuality. However, after 5 years of living in the U.S., I’m proud to say that three of the closest female friends of mine are either lesbians or bisexual.

That being said, I’d like to bring this topic up for all my readers. Why is homosexuality viewed as wrong ? Why would these people be looked down upon ? I’ll give you an answer, one I frequently use: society. Yes, that dirty word which defines people based on their skin color or their sexuality, their class based on how much money they have. The three homosexual females are the most psychologically intelligent people I have ever met. With a mind so open, these girls go through the worst to get what they need.

I asked one if she’d be interested in a little informative interview to post here, and she agreed. I promised her to keep her name anonymous, for personal reasons.

I asked her how she found out about her bisexuality, and her answer was:
“It sounds cliche, but I’ve always known that I like women and men. I grew up in an environment where only men were acceptable as romantic matches to females. I was in relationships with males only, until my senior year. That’s when I realized how much I enjoyed dating girls rather than just hanging out with them.”

Do these relationships really work ? I’ve heard about many happy same-sex couples, but a huge percentage are one-night-stands, or a very short term sexual-relationship experiences.
“A lot of girls are into it to be risque. They do it to be flashy and get attention. They will make out with their best friends at a party in order to grab guys’ attention. We, however, have to go through the feelings and emotions in which we have to deal with. I sometimes meet a girl who I connect with, and I can’t help but wonder, does she have the same feelings towards me ?”

So how do you know if a girl is bisexual, lesbian, or straight, or do you just take your chances and ask as politely as possible ?
“I can’t. Eventually, the topic of “I’m bisexual” will come across, and that’s when I get the different responses. I’ve had a girl who had asked me out before. And I have asked a girl out as well, assuming, mistakingly, that she was into women as well. But usually, you’d know. There’s that chemistry.”

I can’t stress enough how thankful I am to you. Thank you for this tiny interview, and we’ll all work together to make an open-minded society existing soon. Much love from a straight male =)
